Power Semiconductor Module Model Matching Guide

The complete model number is the most important detail when selecting a power module. Check the full model shown on the module label, including every suffix and revision code. If the original model is discontinued or unavailable and a substitute must be considered, compare the device type, circuit topology, electrical and thermal ratings, package, terminal layout, and drive requirements with the original datasheet.

Match the complete part number first

Check the module label, equipment parts list, maintenance record, or old invoice for the manufacturer and complete part number, including all suffixes and revision codes. Similar-looking model numbers may represent different versions.

Identify the module type and topology

Confirm whether the original part is an IGBT, thyristor or SCR, diode, rectifier bridge, or another power module. Also check the circuit configuration, such as a single switch, dual, half-bridge, six-pack, chopper, or rectifier bridge.

Verify the electrical ratings

For substitute matching, compare the blocking voltage, rated current, isolation voltage, and other limits specified in the original datasheet. Voltage and current ratings alone are not enough to confirm compatibility.

Check the package and terminal layout

Compare the module dimensions, mounting holes, baseplate, power terminals, control terminals, screw sizes, and terminal positions. Modules with similar dimensions may still have different internal circuits or terminal assignments.

Review drive, switching, and thermal requirements

When replacing an IGBT or controlled power module, check the gate-drive requirements, switching characteristics, internal diode or temperature sensor, thermal resistance, and cooling conditions.

When a substitute module can be considered

A substitute should match the semiconductor type, circuit topology, electrical limits, package, terminal layout, drive requirements, and cooling conditions. A higher voltage or current rating does not automatically make a module compatible. Send clear photos of the label, front and rear sides, terminals, and equipment nameplate for review.
