Cooling Fan Model Matching Guide

For cooling fan matching, the safest choice is usually the same model number or part number. Please check the full model, suffix, label photo, connector, and key specifications before ordering.

Match the model number first

Check the fan label, equipment parts list, maintenance record, or old invoice for the full model number, brand, suffix, or revision. Some fan series have variants with different wire counts, connectors, current ratings, speed feedback, or PWM control.

Use size to verify compatibility

When the model number is incomplete or a substitute is needed, measure the outside length, width, and thickness in millimeters. Common sizes include 40 x 40 x 20 mm, 80 x 80 x 25 mm, and 120 x 120 x 38 mm.

Verify voltage, current, and power

For substitute matching, rated voltage should match the original fan. Current and power should be close to the original rating unless the equipment allows a different specification.

Confirm wire count and connector

A 2-wire fan usually only has power input. A 3-wire or 4-wire fan may include speed feedback or PWM control, so the wire count and connector should be checked before ordering.

Check airflow direction and mounting side

For fans with airflow arrows or fixed brackets, confirm the airflow direction, mounting side, screw holes, cable exit direction, and available space inside the equipment.

When a substitute fan can be used

If the original model is obsolete, a substitute should match the key electrical rating, frame size, mounting holes, airflow direction, connector, and control wires as closely as possible.
